Trust-Fund Citizens

By: Unwelcome Perspective

It’s hard to imagine that there was a time in America when the president, JFK, could make the statement, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” Here’s the response that our entitled society would give Obama if he tried to say that today. “Give us our free health care, shut your talk hole, and let us know when you can give us some more free shit.” All these people are saying, “I thought Obama was gonna change the country. What happened?” Hmm, why hasn’t Obama changed the country? Maybe, because NO ONE IS HELPING HIM!

I believe the slogan was, “Yes WE can.” I don’t remember him saying, “Hey guys, vote for me. I’ll take care of everything; you guys just chill on the couch, and continue to get fatter and dumber.” Why is Glenn Beck so popular? Because he motivates people to change their lives? No, because he encourages Americans to do their favorite thing, become a political analyst from the Congressional seat of their LAZYBOY recliner, and take breaks from their deep thoughts to watch Doritos commercials.

It seems tough for people to accept, but we need to be very wary of politicians, including Obama, who promise us improvements without any sacrifices on our part. Right now the general message being pile-drived into our brains is, “the middle class and the poor need health care, education, and jobs, so instead of asking them to lend a hand, let’s just tax the rich.” Great idea, because we all know the rich are more than happy to pay more taxes, and it’s not like they have any pull on Capitol Hill or anything. Taxing the rich is a great way to send more jobs and money overseas, divert money away from effective charities and into the hands of our inefficient bureaucracy, and allow the general population to continue to victimize themselves and settle for apathy instead of self-improvement.

But no politician would ever dare take the podium to say, “Hey parents, place value on education in your home, or your kids are going to lose jobs to smarter, humbler, can-do kids in India.” A candidate could have unlimited charisma, but they include that message in their stump speech, and they’re not making it out of the primaries. If we want to maintain or even get back to the freedoms fought for by our Founding Fathers, we’re going to need act as they did, and let our paternalistic rulers know that we’re not children, and we can make our own change.
