Brief comment on the death of Osama Bin Laden

By: Wilson Blair
I feel compelled to ask what happened to the citizens of the United States? When did it become ok to celebrate death of any kind. Even if Osama Bin Laden is the terrible boogeyman he is portrayed as, should we really be throwing midnight parties outside the White House upon his death? This should be a somber moment of reflection on the last 10 years of wars and bloodshed that the image of this man has inspired. Sure, we got the alleged head of al-qaeda. But is this going to bring back the lives of the thousands of dead American soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan or the million dead Iraqi citizens killed as a result of the US invasion?

It's mind boggling to analyze the impact of this man across the entire globe. It would not be a stretch to call Bin Laden the most influential human being of the last 30 years. And now it has come to an end and we have drunk Americans pounding their beer soaked chests chanting "USA" all over NBC as a result of his death. Where is the thoughtful and intelligent discussion. If this is the American culture that Osama Bin Laden helped bring about, than he succeeded in his mission to bring down the United States.
